Self-clinching screws, a type of innovative fastener, are extensively used in thin sheets or sheet metal assemblies. Their operating principle is unique: the screw is pressed into a pre-punched hole in the metal, which has a diameter slightly smaller than the screw's clinching diameter. Under high pressure, the screw's head causes the surrounding metal to flow plastically into an annular recess (locking groove) machined around the shank, creating a permanent, high-strength threaded fastener. These screws are available in various materials, including carbon steel (such as 1215), stainless steel, as well as copper and aluminum alloys, to suit different application environments. Standard metric thread sizes typically range from M2 to M6, making them widely applicable.
